Art Lovers Talk & Tour of the National Gallery of Scotland

Your cultural discovery begins in the drawing-room of our Georgian art townhouse with a preparatory illustrated talk on masterpieces of painting in the National Gallery of Scotland.

Tea and coffee plus cake will be served on arrival. Colin will then provide a contextualised introduction to the works that we will later examine in detail on the walls of the National Gallery. There will be time for questions both after the talk and at the end of the tour in the gallery.

We will spend approximately one hour together during the introductory talk then take a leisurely walk (30 mins) through the New Town to the National Gallery of Scotland on the Mound for a further one hour's guided tour. At the end of your personal masterclass, you will then be free to explore the rest of the collection independently.

Among the works we examine during the tour will be paintings by such old masters as Botticelli, Raphael, Leonardo, Titian, Rubens, Poussin, Velazquez, Rembrandt and Vermeer; and more modern pictures by Monet, Degas, Gauguin, Cezanne and Van Gogh.   If during the tour you wish to study the work of any particular artist, please let us know in advance.

Other things to note:
This experience is ideal for both enthusiastic beginners and those already familiar with the history of art. Whatever your knowledge of art, Colin will leave you enlightened and keen to find out more.
